The festival will take place as part of the Winter of the Russian North project initiated by Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov. It is not just a celebration of horse breeding and traditions - it is an important element of promoting the cultural and tourist potential of the Vologda Region.

The troika is a traditional Russian sleigh or carriage drawn by three horses harnessed abreast. It was developed around the 17th to 18th century.

Russia’s unique horse traditions will be on display during the festival. Russian troikas will demonstrate to the audience the grace and beauty of the multi-allure harness.

The Horse Festival has been held in the Vologda Region since 2003. The most spectacular part of the event are the All-Russian competitions of Russian triples.

In addition to the riding competitions, the festival will include a rich cultural programme, performances, concerts, master classes and a fair of Vologda's staple products.
