A large-scale cultural and entertainment program has been prepared for Vologda's residents and guests of the region as part of the lace festival which starts today and will run until July 20.
The International Lace Festival VITA LACE collects everything related to the world of linen industry: fabrics, clothes, textile, souvenirs, as well as looms, spinning machines and accessories.
About 500 participants from 29 Russian regions and Estonia will take part in the events. The program of the festival includes lace making competitions and exhibitions, thematic lace making workshops, round-table discussions, fashion shows and numerous accompanying events of a creative and cultural nature.
This year the festival is dedicated to the "Heroes of Earth and Sky". The task of the participant is to show a variety of patterns and ornaments used in folk arts and crafts.
"We continue to balance the best cultural traditions and modernity, inspiring new achievements and strengthening cultural ties between generations," said Georgy Filimonov, Governor of the Vologda Region.
This year, a mass lace-making event in the open air, one of the key spectacular actions of the International Lace Festival will be dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It will take place on July 19th.
The festival is held in Vologda City as part of the Summer of the Russian North project initiated by Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov.
