V International Vita Lace Festival opened in Vologda City on July 17. It will last till July 20.
The International Lace Festival VITA LACE collects everything related to the world of linen industry: fabrics, clothes, textile, souvenirs, as well as looms, spinning machines and accessories.
About 500 participants from 29 Russian regions and Estonia will take part in the events. The program of the festival includes lace making competitions and exhibitions, thematic lace making workshops, round-table discussions, fashion shows and numerous accompanying events of a creative and cultural nature.
Mass lace weaving is a tradition of the Vita Lace festival. This year, it will bring together 365 lace-makers from the Vologda Region and other cities of Russia. This year the action is called "Memory of Generations" – it will allow each participant to pay tribute to the heroes of the past.
The lace-makers will weave one of two symbols to choose from – carnations, representing fortitude and courage, or "front triangles" – letters that soldiers sent to their loved ones. Today, many families keep them as their most valuable relics.
