IV Orthodox Cuisine Festival for lovers of monastery cuisine took place on June 7.
The initiative of the festival belongs to the head of the Vologda Archdiocese, Metropolitan Savva of Vologda and Kirillov.
The festival is organised by the Vologda Archdiocese and Vologda City Administration.
Longtime lovers of monastery cuisine and newcomers eager to explore its delights gathered at the Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery in Vologda. Every year, the festival brings together hundreds of connoisseurs and professional chefs, fully revealing a variety of the national Orthodox cuisine and its traditions.
Tasting of national Orthodox cuisine from famous restaurants of the city was held within the framework of the festival. Participants of lean cuisine contest competed in three categories: "Ancient recipes of Vologda cuisine", "Best seafood dish" and "Baked goods". The guests of the festival could explore the charm of Orthodox cuisine.
But the Orthodox Cuisine Festival isn’t just about the food. It’s a celebration of Orthodox culture and tradition. Throughout the festival, one could attend an orthodox conference, visit a prayer service in the Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery, master classes, theatrical performances and a concert program.
As part of the educational program, master classes on bell ringing and gingerbread painting were prepared for the guests.
This year the festival was held as part of the Summer of the Russian North project initiated by Governor Georgy Filimonov.
