International campaign Night of Museums will take place in Vologda Region on May 17.
For the first time ever, this event was organized in Berlin in 1997, and it was called the "Long Night of Museums." In 2001, thirty-nine European and American countries took part in the campaign. The event was first held in Russia in 2002.
As a rule, action "Night of Museum" is celebrated on the first weekend after this day. The Night of Museums is the international event aimed at showing the resources and the opportunities as well as the potential of modern museums and attracting young people to museums.
In 2025, the All-Russian campaign Night of Museums will be dedicated to the theme "Heroes". Proposed by the St. Petersburg Museum Community, the theme "Heroes" was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
80 years have passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War. Several generations have grown up over the years. We will remember the heroes who selflessly fought for the freedom and independence of the country. The theme "Heroes" will resonate with the museum community from different parts of Russia, because each region has its own heroes and memorable pages of the history of Great Patriotic War and other significant events for the country.
On this night museums open their doors to visitors. There will be offered a memorable program that will plunge Vologda into a cultural insomnia. Vologda’s museums prepare unique cultural and entertainment programmes.
