The festival is named after Valery Gavrilin, the great Russian composer, People's artist of Russia who was born in Vologda.

The International Gavrilin Festival is organized by the Vologda Region Government, Department of Culture and Tourism of the Vologda Region and Vologda Philharmonic Society.

The main objective of the event is to reveal new talents and to perpetuate the memory of Valery Gavrilin. This year it is devoted to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Valery Gavrilin.

A television ballet film Anyuta first appeared on screens in 1982. It was extremely successful amongst the audience and was endorsed by professional awards. 

The original two-act ballet, Anyuta had its premiere in 1986, first in Naples, Italy and, later in the same year, the premiere was held at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. The creation was a great success.

Anyuta toured around the stages of various cities in Russia. The production was sincerely loved by the audience.

The premiere of the ballet "Anyuta"  was held on the new stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in 2022. The production was fully resumed 36 years after the original.

"It will be the first ever performance of the Bolshoi Theatre in Vologda. The  ballet "Anyuta" set to the music of our countryman, composer Valery Gavrilin will be presented in the year when we mark the 85th anniversary of the birth of Valery Gavrilin, " said Georgy Filimonov, Governor of the Vologda Region.
