The folklore festival has been held in the Vologda Region since 2014. It unites the best amateur groups, craftsmen, researchers in the field of traditional folk culture.
This year the festival was held on August 17-18 as part of the Summer of the Russian North project initiated by Acting Governor Georgy Filimonov. This creative project aims to promote the intangible heritage, through forms of expression such as dance, music, games, rituals, customs, handicrafts and other arts.
39 folk groups, about 400 artists from nine Russian regions participated in Russian Folklore Festival on August 17-18, 2024. Craftsmen represented traditions and skills of wood carving, weaving, folk dolls, wood painting, patchwork, lace making and pottery. Folklore groups arrived in Vologda District to share the cultural values and heritage of their ancestors through music and dance.
A wooden horse (konek, a detail of the roof of a traditional Russian wooden house) was handed over to the top leadership of the Ust-Kubinsky District on August 18 at the closing ceremony of IX Russian Folklore Festival "Village - the Soul of Russia". It is a symbol of the All-Russian Folklore Festival "The Village - the Soul of Russia".
The Folklore Festival " Village - the Soul of Russia " is held with the aim to promote folk art, preserve the multi-national cultural heritage of Russia and develop cultural ties between regions. The festival is a place where folk talents and artisans from Russia meet each other to make friends and share their cultural experiences.
