The Vologda Region presented a large-scale project Lace of Russia which united seven "lace" regions of the country at the RUSSIA EXPO venue.
The regions that have preserved their lace weaving traditions will create a joint lace panel in the colors of the Russian flag. The start of the campaign was given at the region's stand on December 28th, 2023, the Day of the Vologda Region at the International RUSSIA EXPO.
“Vologda lace makers began to weave the central stripe of the lace flag. The final work ( size of two by three meters) will be presented at the end of March at the International RUSSIA EXPO,” said Georgy Filimonov, Acting Governor of the Vologda Region.
Lace is woven in seven regions of Russia - the Vologda, Leningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel, Lipetsk, Ryazan and Kirov regions, as well as in the Northern Capital - St. Petersburg.
Each of the lace fragments will represent the style, aesthetics and traditional features of the lace of these regions. The blue stripe of the tricolor and the logo of the exposition will be woven by the lace makers of the Vologda Region, white and red - by the craftswomen of St. Petersburg and other six regions.
