An agreement on holding the International Festival "Wood in Architecture" in Vologda was signed within the framework of XXХI International Festival Zodchestvo 2023. This year, for the first time in history, the Wood in Architecture forum will not be held in Moscow.
XXХI International Festival Zodchestvo 2023 was held at Gostiny Dvor, Moscow from October 31 until November 02, 2023. Russia. It showcased best achievements in architecture and urban planning and featured exhibits from cities, design institutes and other groups in the industry.
Young architects, design studios and bureaus, students of architectural faculties and universities, children's art and architecture groups took part in the competition program.
At the Festival in Moscow, the Vologda City Administration presented the wooden housing construction of the regional capital from the point of view of its history and future. There are more than 250 cultural heritage sites in Vologda, 112 of them are objects of wooden architecture with unique northern architecture.
"Vologda is a perfect place to host this forum. We mean Vologda when we talk about working with wood, about preserving heritage. It will be a large-scale event. 150 architects participating in the business or exhibition program are expected to arrive from Moscow alone. A number of CIS countries and foreign states have already expressed their desire to participate in the forum. I am sure it will be significant not only for the city and the region, but also for Russia as a whole," noted Nikolai Shumakov, President of the Union of Architects of Russia.
"We have much to show - our wooden architecture and the experience of preserving and renovating these architectural monuments. The forum will be an important event for the professional community, and it will also be a great event for the citizens of the city," said Sergey Voropanov, mayor of Vologda City.
The venues of the forum will be the Kremlin Square, the Consistory Courtyard, the South-Western Tower, the Vologda Butter House and the Lace Museum.
