Silver Necklace of Russia is a unique tourism product consisting of chain of routes crossing ancient Russian cities with unique historical and cultural heritage of Northwest Russia. This route is being presented as an alternative to the popular Golden Ring.
The Silver Necklace of Russia is a tourist project across 11 regions of the Russian Federation. It covers the territories of Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Pskov, Novgorod regions, Saint Petersburg, the Republic of Karelia and the Komi Republic, Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Silver Necklace consists of a set of routes that combine historical cities and territories, regional centers, large population points of the Northwestern Federal District, which has the unique monuments of history, culture and nature included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Silver Necklace offers various types of tourism, including cultural and educational tours and pilgrimages, which are popular among Russian tourists.
Eight cities of the Vologda Region are part of the Silver Necklace of Russia project. They are Vologda, Cherepovets, Belozersk, Tot’ma, Veliky Ustyug, Vytegra, Kirillov and Ustyuzhna.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin will be widely celebrated in Russia in 2024. For this reason, the Silver Necklace of Russia project will be supplemented with new ethnographic and Pushkin routes. Relevant ideas were voiced at a meeting at the presidential embassy in the Northwestern Federal District, dedicated to the development of a national cultural and tourism project. Deputy Minister of Culture Alla Manilova proposed to develop the project with an emphasis on the Pushkin theme.
