Analysts of the Yandex Travel service have published a rating of the most popular attractions in the Vologda Region.
Overview of Yandex Travel covers the period from September 2020 to August 2021. The rating was compiled based on the frequency of users’ Internet requests to search for popular locations.
The Ferapontov monastery (District of Kirillov), the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery (District of Kirillov) and the Bryanchaninov's estate (District of Gryazovets) are the most popular places of interest in the region.
The Ferapontov monastery is situated 19 km off Kirillov. It is not very large. Nevertheless it attracts the ever-increasing number of tourists owing to an artistic work of exceptional value - frescoes belonging to Dionisius. The genius of medieval Russian art decorated the Church of the Nativity in 1500-1501. His cycle of frescoes devoted to the Virgin remains a unique monument of medieval painting having national as well as European importance. The frescoes were included by the UNESCO on the World Heritage list.
Every year a great number of visitors flock to Kirillov to admire the majestic architectural ensemble of Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, one of the largest in Russia. The Kirillo - Belozersky Monastery has won an international renown owing to the effect of stateliness and an artistic work of exceptional value. Laid out and built in the traditions of early Russian design, it is preserved as a monument of church architecture. The museum of icons located in the monastery is a really impressive collection. The iconostasis of the Cathedral of the Assumption, in its modern construction, has been preserved to our days. It is a unique fact in the history of the Russian art.
Quite remarkable is Bryanchaninovs’ country estate - a stone structure built in 1809-1810. Bryanchaninovs’ house is embellished with intricate moulded decorative patterns. Apart from the main building, the country estate includes a number of structures, a church and a cemetery.
In addition to it, tourists are also actively interested in the Spaso-Prilutsky monastery, the Sopia Cathedral, the Goritsy Monastery of Resurrection, the Spaso-Kamenny monastery, the Vologda Drama Theatre, Museum of Ethnography and Architecture Semyonkovo and monument to the letter O.
