Xl Russian Hansa Days were timed to coincide with celebrations of 875th anniversary of Veliky Ustyug.
From July 22 to 24, the city hosted the international festival of the cities participating in the Hanseatic League "XI Russian Hansa Days".
Representatives of Russian cities and towns - 16 members of the Union of Russian Hanseatic cities got together in Veliky Ustyug to share their traditions with each other and discuss possible cooperation in economy and culture. The Vologda Region was represented by 4 cities - Vologda, Belozersk, Totma and Veliky Ustyug.
The opening of the Hansa Days was spectacular - it was a theatrical procession, all the participants were dressed in medieval costumes.
In Veliky Ustyug, a medieval town emerged during the Russian Hanseatic Days. Residents of Veliky Ustuyg and tourists were able to shoot a bow and crossbow, try on knight's armor and float in a medieval boat along the Sukhona River.
The program of Hanseatic Days included official meetings of representatives of Hansa member cities and towns, craftspeople and musicians, a craft fair, master classes, music programs, performances of historical reconstruction clubs and an interregional festival of medieval music. Medieval atmosphere of the festival was created in the streets of the city to show the diversity of traditions, culture and history.
