The Governor's International music competition is held in the Vologda Region every three years. The main objective of the event is to reveal new talents, gifted musicians from Russian regions, the near and far abroad and to perpetuate the memory of Valery Gavrilin.

The competition is held under the patronage of Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov.

This is one of the most ambitious projects aimed at popularizing the work of the outstanding Russian composer, a native of the Vologda Region Valery Gavrilin.

VIII Gavrilin Governor’s International Competition for Young Musicians gathered 167 musicians in the 9-to-25 age bracket from 33 Russian regions, and such foreign countries as India, China, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and Turkey. This year the event was transferred to a remote and online format.

The competition was held in several categories including piano, violin, cello, academic singing, accordion, pop music and musical composition. Musicians from the Vologda Region are among the winners of the competition.
