Sweet and spicy gingerbread from different parts of Russia was presented at VII International Gingerbread Festival in St. Petersburg held from December 3. The Vologda Region was presented by masters from Vologda, Nyuksenitsa and Vytegra.
The festival featured gingerbread delights in all shapes and sizes from professional bakers, restaurants and local artisans. Here, one could meet gingerbread of different shapes and colours - gingerbread mills, the Russian stove, gingerbread trains and cities. The participants created incredible sculptures out of gingerbread.
This sugary sweet celebration in St. Petersburg featured live holiday entertainment, craft activities for kids and master classes. Traditional festival events included an exhibition of gingerbread art, Russia’s Championship on printed gingerbread, St. Petersburg gingerbread forum, and a charity event "The world of gingerbread for good".
As part of the festival, the jury and visitors tasted gingerbread and evaluated its presentation skills. Creations of masters from the Vologda Region were awarded with special prizes and diplomas.
The festival was held during the Year of folk art and intangible cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia. The aim of the Year is to popularize folk art and preserve cultural traditions, historical and cultural monuments and cultural identity of all peoples.
