Celebrations devoted to the 90th anniversary of the writer Vasily Belov (23 October 1932 – 4 December 2012) were held in Vologda on October 17-23. Vasily Belov is a Vologda-born writer, poet and dramatist who published more than sixty books.
IX All-Russian Belov Readings were devoted to the 90th anniversary of Vasily Belov’s birth. The founders of the Belov Readings are the Government of the Vologda Region and the Vologda City Administration.
The event brought together a wide range of admirers of the writer's work, all those interested in the preservation, study and promotion of the literary heritage of Vasily Belov.
The monument to Vasily Belov was opened in Vologda on October 23, on the anniversary birthday of the writer. Being the so called a “village writer”, Vasily Belov played an important role in the Russian literature of the seventies and eighties of the 20th century. The writer wrote about the Russian people, the motherland and life in a Russian village.
