This summer Vologda will host several inter-regional and international events - an International Folk Crafts Festival City of Crafts, XV International drama festival Voices of History, IV International Lace Festival VITA LACE and Russian Folklore Festival "The Village - the Soul of Russia".
City of Crafts, an International Folk Crafts Festival will take place in Vologda City on June 25-27. According to the organizers, the festival will be devoted to various programs that reveal to the audience the secrets of one of the folk crafts in the heart of Vologda - Kremlin Square.
Artisans will show off their virtuosity in the following categories - traditional female crafts, wooden and birch bark craft painting, valenki (kind of felt boots), wood engraving and wicker-work, blacksmithing and potter's craft. The festival will also include creative workshops, lectures and round table meetings where leading experts on folk culture will share their ideas and projects.
XV International drama festival Voices of History will be held in Vologda, Cherepovets, Kirillov and Belozersk on July 1-10.
The performances are shown in the open air, in the historical setting of the Vologda Kremlin, which is a point of interest itself. This year the Voices of History will be held not only in the historical setting of the Vologda Kremlin,but also in Cherepovets, Kirillov and Belozersk. The focus of the festival is on the history of Russia and the world history.
The organisers of the festival are the Vologda Region Government and the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Vologda Region.
The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation, Administrations of Vologda City, the city of Cherepovets, Kirillov District and Belozersk District.
Vologda City is to become home to IV International Lace Festival VITA LACE on July 15-18.
The International Lace Festival VITA LACE collects everything related to the world of linen industry: fabrics, clothes, textile, souvenirs, as well as looms, spinning machines and accessories.
The program of the festival includes lace making competitions and exhibitions, thematic lace making workshops, round-table discussions, fashion shows and numerous accompanying events of a creative and cultural nature.
IV International Lace Festival VITA LACE will be devoted to preservation and development of handicrafts as part of the original culture and heritage of the nation. This year, one of the key spectacular events of the International Lace Festival will be a large-scale project "Under the Lace Sky", which will be held during the festival in the heart of Vologda - the Kremlin Square. An art object consisting of lace stars woven by participants during the campaign will be presented to the public. The laceworks will be made of metallic threads of golden or silver colors. This event will be devoted to 60th anniversary of the first human space flight.
Kadui District will host Russian Folklore Festival "The Village - the Soul of Russia" on August 19-21. The creative project is aimed at preserving cultural identity, creating conditions for the development of traditional folk culture and promoting the cultural and historical heritage.
