The exhibition Gates to the North is an event with a long tradition. This year it is taking place for the 19th time.
Gates to the North is an inter-regional event, show and exhibition for the tourism industry. It is held annually with an active backing of the Vologda Oblast Government. The venue of the Gates to the North is the Exhibition Centre "Russky Dom".
The exhibition area and various segments represent the entire product spectrum of the tourist industry of the Vologda Oblast and highlight new itineraries in the Vologda area. At the same time, it provides a unique opportunity for the whole tourism industry to meet, network, negotiate, conduct business and stay abreast with the latest developments.
Running April 16th-17th, Gates to the North offers comprehensive business and entertainment programme for the participants and visitors. It includes presentations of tourist resources, daily seminars aiming to upgrade professional skills of those involved in tourism industry, round-table discussions, contests intended to boost tourism business in the region. The programme of Gates to the North also includes an exhibition for traditional crafts and souvenirs.
For nineteen years, the exhibition Gates to the North has gained support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency for Tourism, and the Association of tour operators of Russia. Over 200 exhibitors arrived to attend it.
The Vologda Region Governor noted that a significant support for the tourism industry last year was provided by the Russian Government. Under the new Federal Tourism Agency incentive program, travelers were able to receive cashback for tours to certain regions of Russia in 2020. The Russian Government allocated an additional 15 billion ($211 million) to develop domestic tourism, which were used to partially compensate Russians who vacation at home. This year, the program will continue, it started on March 18 and will last until June 30.
