From December 19, 2020 to January 11, 2021 New Year and Christmas celebrations took place in the cities and towns of the Vologda Region. Due to the epidemiological situation, serious precautions were taken: use of face masks and social distancing was a must. About 148,000 people visited the Vologda Oblast during New Year and Christmas holidays.
Vologda City and Veliky Ustyug became a magnet for tourists.

During New Year holidays about 115,000 people visited museums and cultural programs in the Vologda Oblast. Over 55,500 tourists headed to the residence of Ded Moroz in Veliky Ustyug during New Year holidays.
New Year and Christmas season are the busiest times in Veliky Ustyug as numerous visitors are keen to experience the true magic of New Year and Christmas in the Official Hometown of Ded Moroz.
Ded Moroz lives in his wooden palace in the pine forests at Votchina 15 km off the town of Veliky Ustyug on the bank of the Sukhona River. The main objective of the project is to acquaint the younger generation with the Russian national traditions and the culture of the Russian North as well as to attract Russian and foreign tourists to Veliky Ustyug. Father Frost holds court at his castle, a strict gentleman in a Russian troika, a three-horse drawn sleigh. This character is straight out of Russian folklore.
The residence of Ded Moroz includes not only the house of Ded Moroz, but also comfortable cottages made of wood, a restaurant, a recreation centre with a sauna, a swimming pool and a billiard room. Here you can find a wide range of sports facilities such as skis, sledges, boats, and fishing-rods. These facilities are spread throughout the territory and include sports to suit every taste. The residence provides a true air of New Year's fairy tale atmosphere and the focus on the pure pleasures of the great outdoors.
