Vologda has much to offer the discerning visitor. The Vologda Region has a remarkable place on Russia's tourist map. With a unique cultural and historical heritage, the region, abundant with architectural monuments and arts, has great tourism potential.

Over 25,000 people visited the Vologda State Museum-Preserve and its affiliates during New Year holidays between December 30th and January 8th.

The Vologda State Museum-Preserve of History, Architecture and Decorative Arts is situated in the historical centre of the city – the Vologda Kremlin that consists of buildings constructed during four centuries (XVI- XIX).

The Vologda State museum-preserve is a scientific – exploring and educational organisation, state storage of artistic, historical, architectural memorials of material and spiritual culture and as well as memorials of nature.

The displays of the Museum include the works of Old Russian artists, manuscripts, handicrafts, commodities, coins, weapon, armour, archaeological finds. The most valuable collections are the collection of Russian Ancient Art (icons), sculpture, numismatics, Old Russian books and others.

The Vologda State Museum-Preserve has nine branches. The Museum of Architecture and Ethnography (Semenkovo Village) where one can feel the atmosphere of the past was a magnet for tourists during New Year holidays. The village of Semenkovo is a sort of an open air museum with wooden houses of the 19th century. These old wooden houses tell us about the life of their former owners – peasants, hunters and fishermen – about their traditions and customs. Each house has its own history.
