VOICES Festival supported by the Vologda Oblast Governor, Vologda City administration and the RF Ministry of Culture started in Vologda in 2009. It became an essential event for all European and Russian independent cinema lovers. Hundreds of guests and films, dozens of concerts and workshops were welcomed by Vologda all along these years.

The festival combines both competition and directors' workshops. This event is aiming to take an interested look at current European cinema, and provides a unique opportunity to discover new talents. The competition includes a selection of first and second full-length fictions by European directors. The festival also features master-classes, round-table discussions and the production of short-length films on-site by European film professionals on a predefined subject. Such round-table discussions are open to the public.

The 8th edition of the Voices Festival will welcome the newest European movies and popular foreign and Russian filmmakers. The competition will gather 6 first and second feature films from all across Europe - Fortuna (Switzerland, Belgium), Home (Belgium), Daybreak (Albania), Bandits in Search of Mom (Serbia), Michael Inside (Ireland) and Your Tutor (Russia).

Russian actress Irina Gorbacheva, French film producer Charles-Evrard Tchekhov, Irish director, producer and screenwriter Johnny O'Reilly will be among the VOICES international jury. The President of the jury is the Russian director, producer, screenwriter Alexei Fedorchenko.

The 2018 edition will feature a focus on Balkan states - Albania, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Festival goers will have the opportunity to see an interesting programme of films, as well as to attend different master classes and round-tables with cinema industry professionals.
