In Russia, the New Year holiday trumps even Christmas in importance, and major celebrations take place all over the country in recognition of the day.
TourStat agency published the list of the most popular Russian New-Year and Christmas festivals, fairs and celebrations in winter.
A project called «Christmas fairy-tale in Vologda» enters 10 great places to get that holiday groove. For many people it is a tradition to head to one of these fun festivals. Some last just a weekend, others the entire holiday season. The celebrations in Vologda will take place from December 30, 2018 through January 7, 2019.
The celebrations in Vologda will include an annual lighting up of the first New Year’s tree in the heart of Vologda, fireworks, live music, master-classes and holiday dishes. Lots of artist groups will bring the best of their music and dance to Vologda to create the spirit of Christmas and make the holidays brighter. Residents of Vologda and guests of the city will be able to time-travel to medieval times during the Festival of Historical Reconstruction.
Last year during the Christmas vacation, Vologda City was visited by more than 45,000 people from all parts of the Vologda Oblast and neighbouring regions.
