The U.S. Consulate General in St. Petersburg decided to plant American musical seeds in Vologda seven years ago with the help of its Russian partners at the Vologda Oblast Government, Department of Culture and Tourism of the Vologda Region, and the Vologda State Museum-Preserve. The festivals were devoted to bluegrass, blues, Conjunto music, jazz and gypsy jazz.
Omar Torrez, a Mexican-American guitarist from Los Angeles, California played at the American Music Festival that covered Vologda, Semyonkovo, Tot’ma and Veliky Ustyug.
On July 7th the festival was in the Vologda Kremlin. Then the festival moved to Semenkovo Museum of Architecture and Ethnography, Tot’ma and Veliky Ustyug where another audience had an opportunity to listen to Mexican-American music.
Free concerts, workshops and jam sessions will be offered in the Vologda Region to help introduce Mexican-American music to the Russian audience.
