The exhibition of Vologda’s lace kicked off on April 28th in the Swiss Gallery “Beyeler Collection Foundation” that became home to masterpieces by Vologda’s craftsmen for the first time.
The exhibition features elegant panels, napkins, light pelerines and tablecloths made by Vologda’s lace-makers.
Vologda has always been one of the main centres of Russian lace tatting, and in the 19th century it became the most famous one. It was that time when lace-makers began to tat lace patterns in the form of wonderful stars and snowflakes.
The main purpose of the exhibition is to promote this brand of the Vologda Region in the European countries, to strengthen cultural ties between the Vologda Oblast and Switzerland.
The Vologda Region has been sustaining cultural ties with Switzerland and Liechtenstein for years. The year 2015 saw the signing of a cooperation agreement between Vologda and the Swiss Gallery “Beyeler Collection Foundation” and the National Museum of Liechtenstein.
Vologda laces have won deserved fame and world-wide recognition for their high artistic value, rich ornament and excellent workmanship.
The exhibition of one of the most valuable crafts of the Vologda Region -Vologda’s lace will last till mid July 2017.
