The World Legacy Awards are a groundbreaking collaboration between two giants in the world of travel: National Geographic and ITB Berlin. The awards are unprecedented in their international visibility and promotion, reaching National Geographic's global audience of more than 700 million people worldwide each month through its media platforms, products and events.

The awards showcase leading travel and tourism companies, organizations and destinations — from tour operators and resorts to wilderness regions and major cities — that are driving the positive transformation of the travel industry based on sustainable tourism principles and practices.

First Deputy Governor Alexei Sherlygin noted that participation in such a prestigious competition is a unique opportunity to promote the tourism opportunities of the Vologda Region abroad.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief at National Geographic Russia Andrei Palamarchuk arrived in the Vologda Oblast to meet its top leadership, to discuss guidelines for further cooperation and collect information about the Ferapontov Monastery and Museum of Dionisy's Frescoes. The ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery is located in Ferapontovo of the Kirillov District (Vologda Oblast). It is unique in its beauty, authenticity and the harmony of architectural details of different centuries. The Ferapontov Monastery is considered to be one of the purest examples of Russian medieval art, a reason given by UNESCO for its inscription on the World Heritage List. The Museum of Dionisy's Frescoes located on the territory of the monastery is a branch of the Kirillo-Belozersky historical, architectural and art museum-preserve which is inscribed on the List of the most valuable objects of the Russian Federation.
