Ex-libris enthusiasts from all over the world arrived in Vologda to take part in 36th FISAE International Ex-libris Congress on August 22-27. The mail objective of the event is to further develop the art of printed ex-libris and provide a platform for dialogue and discussion for ex-libris enthusiasts.
FISAE was established in 1966 and unites 41 organizations of ex-libris lovers from 33 countries. There are over 30 societies of ex-libris enthusiasts around the world, which bring together collectors, artists, scholars, historians, and researchers. FISAE holds World Congresses every two years. In Russia, this forum was held only once - in 1998, in St. Petersburg. This is an honour for Vologda to host this event.
A bookplate, also known as ex-libris is usually a small print or decorative label pasted into a book, often on the inside front cover, to indicate its owner.
The exhibition halls of the Vologda Picture Gallery and the Korbakov exhibition gallery will host the FISAE Congress, arranged with an active support of the RF Ministry of Culture, the Vologda Oblast Government and Administration of Vologda City.
