"The National Calendar of Events" presents major cultural, historical, musical and sporting events in the regions of Russia that are attractive for Russian and foreign tourists.

The national calendar for 2017 will not only become a guide book or data base but a feedback system among event organizers, travel companies and travellers. It will be sort of a catalog with constantly taking place events allowing Russian and foreign tourists find something interesting in it for themselves.

The experts selected 200 exciting festivals and events out of 1400 projects from 62 Russian regions.

“Vologda-New Year Capital of Russia’s North, an International Folk Crafts Festival “Voice of Crafts” and an International Lace Festival VITA LACE that are held in the Vologda Oblast on a regular basis entered the National Events Calendar 2017.

The jury assessed eventfulness, popularity and audience coverage, a well-established venue, transport access and infrastructure development.

The All-Russian project “New Year Capital of Russia’s North ” is designed to stimulate the development of domestic tourism because every Russian city has its own traditions of celebrating..

As usual Vologda’s authorities plan a number of major festive actions and events that take place from the end of December through the first decade of January.

The International Folk Crafts Festival “Voice of Crafts” is aimed at popularization of folk arts and handicrafts among the younger generation.

The festival includes creative workshops, lectures and round table meetings where leading experts on folk culture share their ideas and projects.

Artisans show off their virtuosity in the following categories - traditional female crafts, wooden and birch bark craft painting, valenki (kind of felt boots), wood engraving and wicker-work, blacksmithing, potter's craft and forgotten handicrafts.

The International Lace Festival VITA LACE is organized by the Vologda Oblast Government with an active backing of the RF President, the RF Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Agriculture.

Hundreds of trade visitors from Russian regions and foreign countries attend it. Foreign and Russian companies display their products, equipment and achievements in flax cultivation and processing.

In general, the Festival collects everything related to the world of linen industry: fabrics, clothes, textile, souvenirs, as well as looms, spinning machines and accessories.

The program of the festival includes lace making competitions and exhibitions, thematic lace making workshops, round-table discussions, fashion shows and numerous accompanying events of a creative and cultural nature.
