Lace-makers from 18 Russian regions (St. Petersburg, Vologda, Leningrad, Yaroslavl, Moscow and Murmansk regions among them) will take part in the All-Russian competition «Silver Bobbin».

The program of the competition includes a round table discussion concerning preservation and development of lace industry in Russia, workshops and master-classes for Vologda’s residents and guests to the city, presentations of lace collections and a fashion show of lace clothes and accessories.

The aim of the competition "Silver bobbin" is to promote the art of lacemaking, to keep this tradition alive and to improve professional skills of craftsmen.

Vologda has always been one of the main centres of Russian lace tatting, and in the 19th century it became the most famous one. It was that time when lace-makers began to tat lace patterns in the form of wonderful stars and snowflakes. Vologda lace has won deserved fame and world-wide recognition for its high artistic value, rich ornament, and excellent workmanship.
