The unique exhibition about the outstanding commander and his famous passage through the Alps was opened in the Vologda State Museum-Preserve thanks to the cooperation with the Swiss museum.

«This display marks the 285th anniversary of Alexander Suvorov’s birth. It is also to strengthen the relations between Russia and Switzerland», noted Angelina Glebova, head of the Art Department in the Vologda State Museum-Preserve for History, Architecture and Art.

The foreign colleagues brought the works of Russian and Swiss artist Alex Doll to Vologda. The series «In the Footsteps of A.V. Suvorov in Switzerland» presents modern views of those places where the army of the generalissimo passed in 1799. Besides, the exhibition includes photos of the Swiss Alps of the late 19th – early 20th centuries and some trophies of war – balls and horseshoes that were found on the battlefields of Alexander Suvorov.

Visitors can see original letters of the commander to Emperor Paul I and collection books of the middle of the 19th century in the display. These articles were given by the Suvorov Memorial Museum in St. Petersburg. There are also items from the holdings of the Vologda State Museum-Preserve.
