The Festival «Fourth Vologda» about the creative work of Varlam Shalamov will begin in the regional capital on June 18 – on the day of the writer’s birth – and will last till June 21. A lot of literary, music, theater and local history events will be held during these days.
This event will begin the festival summer in Vologda. The final program hasn’t been approved yet, but it is already clear that the festival will include the scientific conference «Four Vologdas of Varlam Shalamov. Metaphors and Reality», theatre performances, reading of the author’s works by processional actors of local theatres and city dwellers. Besides, people will be able to see films about the writer, to make tours of the Shalamov’s places in Vologda, to attend opening ceremonies of photo displays and art exhibitions.
The main event of the festival will be presentation of the new edition of the book «The Fourth Vologda». It will contain not only the prose works of Varlam Shalamov, poems, rare photos and over 200 various comments on his creative activity.
It should be added that famous actor of theatre and cinema Veniamin Smekhov will come to the festival. Few people know that he is one the best reciters of Varlam Shalamov’s works.
