The project of such a level and scale will be first implemented in Vologda, according to the organizers. What spectators will see in Revolution Square on May 9 is called mapping. It is a projection technology used to turn objects into a display surface for video projection. In Vologda, the images will be projected on the building of the city administration.

“During a 10-minute story about the Great Patriotic War, we will tell about the events of that time. It will be both a light and a sound show, rather colourful and interesting. The shooting is individual; everything is made according to a special script. So it will be a unique performance that nobody can repeat anywhere”, said Sergey Semenov, chief editor of the newspaper “Nasha Pobeda”.

The specialists are already working on the implementation of the idea. They are using a lot of expensive equipment the total cost of which is over 10 million roubles.

“Some parts of the video will be shot in the pavilion, the others – on location. The images painted in the studio will be animated. Besides, we will apply a very interesting technology of photo animation. We will work with original historical material. Everybody probably knows the photographs depicting how the banner was raised on the Reichstag building in Berlin or the fountain in Stalingrad. We will try to animate them and to introduce new heroes into them”, said Boris Podolny, technical director of the project.

It is planned to begin the light show at 22:30 – 23:00 when it gets dark.
