It is one of the main events of the Second All-Russian Belov Readings and the Year of Literature in Vologda. The museum was opened at 10 Oktyabrskaya Street where the famous local writer used to live. Mikhail Bryzgalov, representative of the Ministry of Culture of the RF, Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov, Vologda’s Mayor Yevgeny Shulepov and writer’s widow Olga Belova took part in the solemn ceremony.

The museum was established thanks to joint efforts. The regional authorities applied to Russian President Vladimir Putin and he supported the project. Then during a year, the Ministry of Culture of the RF, the regional and the city authorities and concerned people worked on the design of the exhibition.

«I was really touched that people paid so much attention and wanted to establish a museum. The way to this event was very long. So many people were interested in it – I was just amazed», pointed out writer’s widow Olga Belova.

Vasily Belov lived in the flat in Oktyabrskaya Street for a quarter of the century. In each room there are unique articles of the Belovs connected personally with the writer: pictures, icons, sculptures – everything that he liked and collected, and there are certainly manuscripts and published books.

«We are very glad that a new museum of the great Russian writer has been opened in the Vologda region and that this event has been held in the Year of Literature», noted Mikhail Bryzgalov, director of the Department of Cultural Heritage in the Ministry of Culture of the RF.

«The contribution of Vasily Belov to our literature is enormous. The village prose began exactly from his works. In the opinion of the largest Russian and foreign scholars, it is the brightest and greatest direction of the postwar Russian literature. Vasily Belov went down in history of Russia, in history of the Vologda region and Vologda», underlined Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
